We have GOT to talk about Rogue.
SPOILERS BELOW!!!! DO NOT READ if you haven’t read OTM5.
Rogue was a stretch for me. She’s mean, she’s brash, she has no freaking filter. And while I can be mean to certain people (cough-husband-cough), I am not the other two, AND, I’ve never written a character like her before, so it took me a long time to get comfortable with her. I guess I tend more towards the innocent heroine. They can make good characters, lots of discovery, lots of intense feelings, that kind of thing.
I’ve heard from some people is that Rogue wasn’t likeable. That they had a really hard time with her. I get that!!!! I personally *loved* her. But maybe that’s because her mouth wasn’t turned on me. Other people have also told me they loved her, so… preference thing, I guess. I get that too!!!!! 💋 I appreciate all feedback, but can’t always use it to change the stories. They come as they come.
However, I do have to say that if Rogue hadn’t been held against her will, she never would have been mean to Bruin (who can be mean to Bruin?) or kicked Mac out of his own bed.
Let’s watch her and see if she changes at all over the course of the next 8 books 😇
any thoughts you have to share on Rogue????
Below is a conversation between Nikki and I about Rogue… I thought you might like to read.
As someone that reads a lot of romance and PA’s for an author can I just tell you how brilliant “ruts” are? They give me that squirmy “no no no no” feeling but you always manage to squeak the hero out of actually rutting so he doesn’t come off as gross lol. Brilliant. I have to say. When I saw that Mac was going to be a hero I was like ew! Cause I kept picturing him at the first rut and thinking I’d never want him to have a HEA then you wrote Rogue LOL! He got his heroine but god damn, you really made that fucker pay before he got it lol! – Nikki
And yes, Rogue is MY favorite character lol. I actually lost a few readers with her. Too mean. I hate to lose readers, but I really like Rogue lol. And wait till you read Harlan’s boooooookkkkkk!!!!!!! OMMMMMGGGGGG!! And troy’s omg. lol. Troy is gonna be a fucking mess, but hopefully I can pull it all off. – Lisa
How could you possibly loose readers because she’s super sassy (alright, maybe a little mean) I mean Mac was a womanizing manslut! He totally had that shit (his heroine stabbing him and pretty much hating him) coming! It was the road to redemption for him. Couldn’t they see that? The fact that he loved her and stood by her despite her being kinda messed up showed that he could change and be a good guy despite his past.
If she’d like left him and gone off and banged some other wolf to stick it to him or because she was “confused” I could see readers being upset and not wanting to continue the series. For me (and lots of others) once the hero and heroine are aware of each other romantically anyone else they bang totally counts as cheating (even if they aren’t “together”) and once an author writes cheating you tend to loose faith in them and think they’ll do it again/skip them and look for other authors… but how boring and unsatisfying would Mac’s book had been if he had a sweet heroine? Someone like that would have bored him for one and like I mentioned he totally needed to be punished for his past assholery lol – Nikki
HHHHAAA HAAA! You made me laugh hysterically! Yes, it was the only way he could be redeemed, wasn’t it?
Could you imagine Willow with Mac? NOOOO! lol. Mac needed Rogue, and that was all there was to it. And just cuz she fell in love, that doesn’t fucking change who she is. She’s a bitch and she always will be, even if she tries to temper it for Mac and her young. That’s ok. Bitches are loveable, too. Especially to badass men. They can take it.
